Summer Camp Overview
Nestled in the scenic town of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY—just an hour's drive from the George Washington Bridge—Camp Olmsted has been a cherished haven for children since 1901. We offer camp Monday through Friday for both residential youth ages 8 to 16 and day summer programs for youth ages 6 to 16, providing a safe and nurturing environment where campers can grow, learn, and thrive.
Our programs feature a wide variety of fun and engaging activities, including swimming, sports, hiking, arts and crafts, live performances, and a challenge course. Each activity is thoughtfully designed to boost campers' self-esteem, foster teamwork, and enhance their social skills.
Camp Olmsted takes pride in maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Our facilities and programs are fully accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed by the Department of Health.

Programs & Activities
Creative Center
Campers complete writing projects, do research and play educational games. In the creative center campers participate in activities designed to stimulate their mind and creative process. The center is equipped with computers, books and other materials for reading, writing, group projects, research and other activities all done under the direction of the activity leader.
Hobby Hut
Arts and crafts projects specially designed for each age group. At the hobby hut campers are led through arts and crafts projects by the Activity Leader. These projects are designed to encourage creativity, imagination, group work and foster an appreciation of art. In addition to regular art projects campers may use the time in hobby hut to work on props and costumes for the evening programs.
Kiddie's Kitchen
Campers prepare special snacks and treats. This activity incorporates nutrition (through the preparation of healthy meals and snacks) and math (through the incorporation of measurement). This activity is led by our cook and/or an activity leader.
Sports & Recreation
Campers participate in various sports, games and fun! During recreation the campers engage in different sports and games led by an activity leader. Participation in such sports and games promotes physical activity and fosters a spirit of teamwork. Olmsted features a basketball court, volleyball court, and three pickleball courts.
Swim Lessons & Free Swim
All campers are given the opportunity to swim at least twice a day during instructional swim and free swim sessions. During the instructional swim period our certified lifeguards teach campers how to swim and be safe in the water. Campers may also learn different games that can be played in the water. During free swim period campers have fun in the pool. They are able to interact with friends and peers and put into practice what they learn during instructional swim.
Challenge Course
Campers participate in challenge course activities consisting of planks, ropes, tires etc. The course serves as a teambuilding exercise and ropes course gives campers the opportunity to face their fears and build confidence.
Chapel Service
Olmsted is a United Methodist Camp, therefore chapel service is a vital part of the camp program. Each meal service starts with a non- denominational prayer. Once a week the campers have chapel service (Wednesday Night). The chapel services are led by clergy volunteers, the Camp Director or lay people from various United Methodist churches.
Things You Need to Know
Who We Serve
Camp Olmsted is located in Cornwall on Hudson, NY and serves boys and girls ages 6 – 14 years old. Our camp program offers both sleepaway and day camp programs designed to offer a variety of fun and engaging activities for campers. For children ages 15-17 years old, Camp Olmsted offers a Camper to Counselor Program.
Scholarships
Camp Olmsted offers full and partial need-based scholarships to eligible participants. Families requesting scholarships must complete the scholarship application and submit all required forms including - proof of income of all adults in the household and copies of tax forms - before any type of scholarship award can be approved. Scholarships are based on financial need and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Health & Medical
All campers are required to have a physical exam done prior to attending camp. All physicals must be signed, dated and stamped by a medical professional. We will only accept physicals with a date of January 1, 2026 or later. Please make sure to list all allergies and medications on the appropriate forms. Also, note all campers must have age-appropriate immunizations before they are allowed to attend camp. Children without valid medical forms and the required immunizations will NOT be permitted to attend camp. Your child's health and safety are important to us. Our staff includes a nurse who is available 24 hours a day. The closest hospital, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, is approximately 6 miles away from Camp Olmsted.
Meals & Snacks
Camp Olmsted provides USDA-approved meals each day based on camp selection type.
Partial Day: Lunch Provided
Full Day: Lunch and Snack Provided
Overnight: 3 meals daily and snacks
Our staff is able to accommodate most dietary restrictions. Please call us to discuss any special needs your child may have.
What to Bring
Campers need to bring enough clothing to last for at least 5-7 days. Campers are not allowed to do laundry/wash clothes except in the case of an emergency. Please click on the appropriate link below to see the list of what your child should bring to camp.
What Not to Bring
Campers should NOT bring cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, video games, radios, jewelry (i.e. watches, rings, bracelets, earrings, etc.), food, expensive cameras, money, weapons, fireworks or inappropriate reading materials to camp. Camp Olmsted is not responsible for the loss and/or theft of any of such items
